mp3: Tintern Abbey

Saturday, September 16th, 2006 at about 7:04 am

Free mp3 of Lovely by Tintern Abbey from their album Cavalcade.

As their website says, Tintern Abbey is the “musical pen name” of Rob Allen…but he’s not going it alone. He’s joined by his older brother Josh as well as Kyle Murphy, JJ Robson, and Jonathon Hape. If the songs I heard today are any indication, this group has a bright future.

mp3: Circleslide

Free mp3 bonanza from Circleslide:

America
Home
She Dances
The Muse & Shakespeare (For Debra)
Uncommon
Weatherboy

These aren’t clips. They’re the full songs…and I like them! These guys aren’t beginners. They took first place at GMA’s Music in the Rockies in 2003. Their sound is mature and smooth.

mp3: Derek Webb

Friday, September 1st, 2006 at about 7:10 am

I like free music. Derek Webb is offering his entire Mockingbird album for free…well, it’s not actually free. You have to give him the email addresses of 5 friends who would also want his ‘free’ album. If you have 5 friends who wouldn’t mind this sort of offering, you’re in luck.

Go get em!

For the record (pun intended): I really like Derek’s music. I love almost everything Caedmon’s Call has ever done, and I’ve spent a lot of time listening to Derek’s first solo album, She Must and Shall Go Free. Don’t spam people to get the album…but if you really do know people who’d like it, this is a good deal.

concert: Caedmon’s Call

Saturday, April 29th, 2006 at about 7:34 pm

Begins: Sat, 29 Apr 2006 at 6:00 PM

Ends: Sat, 29 Apr 2006 at 7:00 PM

Location:

Denver First Church of the Nazarene

Denver, CO

I’ve been a Caedmon’s Call fan for some time. I have a half-dozen of their CDs, and have memorized a lot of their songs. Tonight I saw them in concert for the first time, and they were great.

They didn’t play many songs, since they were the closing act of the Fusion Conference at Denver First Church of the Nazarene in Denver, Colorado. They didn’t talk much, either…it was the end of a conference day, after all. Still, it was very enjoyable.

They played a few favorites, including Hands of the Potter and Hope to Carry On (written by their departed friend and mentor, Rich Mullins). They also told about a trip to India, for which they brought a young American girl back to the land where her parents were born. Her name is Sarala, and their 2004 album Share the Well features a song in her name. Her Indian grandparents are Dalits, the ‘untouchable and unworthy’ caste in India. Their compassion for the plight of the Dalits led them to support the Dalit Freedom Network. I’d recommend a visit to their site.

It really was great to see such a talented band in person, and a treat to hear some of my favorite songs performed live. If Caedmon’s Call is coming to your area, go and see them…and tell them MusicMan sent you!
