concert: Caedmon’s Call

Saturday, April 29th, 2006 at about 7:34 pm

Begins: Sat, 29 Apr 2006 at 6:00 PM

Ends: Sat, 29 Apr 2006 at 7:00 PM

Location:

Denver First Church of the Nazarene

Denver, CO

I’ve been a Caedmon’s Call fan for some time. I have a half-dozen of their CDs, and have memorized a lot of their songs. Tonight I saw them in concert for the first time, and they were great.

They didn’t play many songs, since they were the closing act of the Fusion Conference at Denver First Church of the Nazarene in Denver, Colorado. They didn’t talk much, either…it was the end of a conference day, after all. Still, it was very enjoyable.

They played a few favorites, including Hands of the Potter and Hope to Carry On (written by their departed friend and mentor, Rich Mullins). They also told about a trip to India, for which they brought a young American girl back to the land where her parents were born. Her name is Sarala, and their 2004 album Share the Well features a song in her name. Her Indian grandparents are Dalits, the ‘untouchable and unworthy’ caste in India. Their compassion for the plight of the Dalits led them to support the Dalit Freedom Network. I’d recommend a visit to their site.

It really was great to see such a talented band in person, and a treat to hear some of my favorite songs performed live. If Caedmon’s Call is coming to your area, go and see them…and tell them MusicMan sent you!

Producer: Reed Arvin

Year: 1986

Label: Reunion Records

Favorite songs

  • Every song in this album is a favorite

Rich Mullins (October 21, 1955 - September 19, 1997) is probably my favorite artist. I heard his first single, A Few Good Men, in 1986. I liked it enough to spend what little I had to buy his self-titled cassette. I consider every song on the album a classic, and am grateful that Reunion saw fit to release the album on CD.

Songs:
A Few Good Men
A Place to Stand
Live Right
New Heart
Elijah
Nothing But a Miracle
Both Feet On the Ground
These Days
Prisoner
Save Me

Numero Uno

It’s an idea whose time has come.

I’m going to post links to free Christian mp3s online…or, at least that’s the idea. I hope to also include links to each new artist I add to the site.

CCM Links started as a subsection of my personal site. It grew quickly because I really love Christian music. When I wanted to recommend it to the teens at my church, I realized that someone somewhere might have a problem with the theology stuff on my personal site. So, something had to change.

I liked my church, so I changed the website. I created CCM Links, and it quickly became one of the biggest linksites online for Christian music. Now the teens could find new bands without worrying their parents, and I could promote artists without worrying that I might unintentionally alienate someone.

In the 2+ years since CCM Links went online, I’ve gone from a hobbyist to a full-time web designer. The site has gone from around 350 links to way, way over 1,000. I’ve changed the site from a static website to one that’s database-driven so that I could add things like genre, album reviews, etc. They’re coming. Now that it’s easier to update the site, I’ve added around 200 new links in the past week.

More and more artists are sending CDs for review. I’m getting them done, really…I just haven’t finished the code for the database, so they can’t yet be displayed. In case you’ve missed it, artists are sending me two CDs for review. I open one and listen to it (over and over again) and leave the second one sealed. I save it for the next artist that sends me 2 CDs. It’s essentially a third-party swap with some added publicity. I take t-shirts, stickers, promotional photos, etc.

If you’re new here, look around the site. See if your favorite radio station is listed. Let me know if you listen to a great internet-only station. Find your favorite artist, or submit their link. Let me know what you think. I promise to write back.
